August 28 cleanup & tool shed
Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 9am to noon for our annual Troll’s Knoll neighborhood clean up event. This event was made possible by SDOT Urban Forestry, Trees for Seattle, and Friends of the Troll’s Knoll. On Thursday prior to the clean up, the SDOT Urban Forestry team came out to the space to mow and trim back overgrowth, getting the Knoll ready for the volunteer crew. The city provided the large tool trailer, a green dumpster, mulch, soil, and 4 new self-watering plater boxes. Our artist team joined in and painted the newly installed tool shed - that was built by Monroe Shed Depot (August 16).
With our stellar volunteer crew, we accomplished all of our work party goals in record time (sub 2 hours)!
Mulched around the tool shed, refreshed the existing pathway mulch, and created a new defined path to the hill top (the “true” Troll’s Knoll)
Installed 4 new planter boxes on the hill. These new additions are on loan from SDOT and have water reservoirs so they are ‘self watering’ up to 3 weeks, reducing maintenance needs
Painted a mural on the tool shed
Weeded and refreshed the soil in our existing 8 planter boxes
Picked up litter and trash
Removed green debris including large limbs and sticks
Diagnosed and triaged a leaky water connection
